When the idea for Roxbro House was conceived it was always my intention to create somewhere just a little bit special, that was slightly different from other traditional B&B’s. Roxbro House itself is a lovely old building built in 1887 and so I wanted to show a sympathetic and considerate approach when designing the interior.
The end result is a somewhat grand finish with an opulent and welcoming feeling to this intimate B&B. I have used rich bold colours, tactile velvets and silks along with beautiful antique furniture to compliment this lovely old house.
When thinking about the obvious necessities for guest accommodation I wanted to provide the very best, so our bed linen is a decadent crisp Egyptian cotton which drapes and feels like satin and our beds are dressed with the most luxurious Goose down duvets and pillows. In our boldly decorated bathrooms you will find sumptuous fluffy Egyptian towels, bathrobes and slippers complimented by top of the range toiletries from The White Company.
Continuing the feeling of luxury into the dining room there was clearly only one possible choice:- A classical timeless theme, using crisp white table linen , sterling silver cutlery and beverage pots, silver condiments, fine bone china table settings and crystal glassware. Our breakfast menu has brought us several awards, due to the extensive choice available and the quality of the produce used to prepare the important first meal of the day.
As a small, intimate bijou establishment Roxbro House offers stylish, lavish surroundings and a passion for outstanding customer service, we do not offer large soulless rooms, mass manufactured furniture and basic customer service and we are very proud of that fact!
We do have 2 dogs and 2 kittens that live on the premises. The dogs, are not allowed in the public areas, unless people request to meet them. Our very friendly kittens, do wander around the communal areas to meet guests, however they are not allowed in guest rooms or the breakfast room.
Please do come and visit us and sample the experience that is Roxbro House.
Owner, manager, designer and PR.
Claire had 3 childhood ambitions, to work in a shoe shop, be an air stewardess and run a small quality guest establishment. She has achieved all 3!
As a long haul stewardess for over 18 years Claire has travelled the world and stayed in some of the worlds most prestigious 5 star hotels and it is this knowledge and experience along with years of customer service expertise that she now uses to operate Roxbro House. Staying in some of the worlds finest hotels she was constantly disappointed by the lack of soul and character in the rooms and sometimes questionable customer service. It was this observation that drove Claire to design her own rooms, all with individual style and character and offer attentive but discreet customer service to rival any top hotel.
As a child in the 70’s Claire avidly watched and was inspired by the television drama The Duchess Of Duke Street. The drama was based on the true life story of Rosa Lewis who owned and ran the original and then unique Cavendish Hotel in London. In the drama the fictional Bentinck Hotel was run by the formidable, no nonsense Louisa Trotter who designed this intimate and luxurious establishment which was the toast of London and offered its guests privacy, luxury, decadence and quality in every area.
Whilst Claire has the same, drive, vision, exacting standards and passion as Louisa and Rosa, she does dryly point out that she doesn’t yell or swear quite as much as either women!
Owner, manager and chef.
Stuart and Claire have been together almost ten years and have been married for 5. Stuart has worked in the customer service industry all of his working life, whether it be in a hotel, restaurant or a pub there isn’t much that he hasn’t done.
Stuart is a very versatile integral part of Roxbro House who can turn his hand to almost anything. He is the breakfast chef and is responsible for producing the much praised and award wining breakfasts each morning. He also takes care of the day to day maintenance and in the summer keeps the garden looking tip top for guests to enjoy.
Ellen and Hayley & Dale
Ellen is a longstanding family friend who is also an experienced air stewardess with many years in all areas of the customer service industry, so when Claire and Stu take the occasional break Ellen takes the reins and comfortably runs all areas of Roxbro House in their absence.
Hayley is Claire’s daughter, also an experienced air stewardess with vast customer service experience who often assists Ellen in running Roxbro House whilst Claire and Stu are taking a break.
Dale is Claire's son who also has accumulated a wealth of customer service experience. When he is not working abroad as an activity instructor he is always on hand to help with the day to day running of Roxbro House and is only to happy to assist guests, especially in carrying heavy bags!
